Transformation of the pharmaceutical industry continues to accelerate, with increasing globalization of the business presenting unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Leveraging these potential opportunities for success requires thoughtful, deliberate and rapid navigation through a complex landscape replete with business risks. This presentation will take a look at some of these opportunities, examples of how they are being leveraged, and some approaches to managing and mitigating the risks. Some topics to be covered include:

- capital, asset and knowledge management
- quality, compliance and regulations
- environment/health & safety

- partnerships between industries, universities, governments, professionals and patients
This presentation will conclude with some approaches to building a successful career in this exciting and fast-changing environment, and a menu of opportunities increasingly available in contrast to a traditional career model.
Bio: Dr. Johnson received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982, and his Ph.D. degree in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University in 1987. He is currently Vice President of the Marketed Product Support Group in Global Manufacturing Services for Pfizer, Inc. He serves as Chair of PhRMA Drug Product Technical Group and is a member of the Technical Leadership Committee. Dr. Johnson also serves as the Chair of the Steering Committee for the Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems funded by the National Science Foundation, Academia and Industry, and has presented at numerous scientific forums on topics ranging from advanced pharmaceutical processing, validation, pre-approval inspections, and quality by design.
